Leith Hill on the Horizon again!
The 2010 Leith
Hill Musical Festival, the programme looks as exciting as ever. The season of glorious music and song starts on Sunday 14th
March with the annual performance of a Bach Passion – this year offers the
concise and dramatic St John, working withTheresa Caudle's wonderful
baroque ensemble Canzona of hand-picked musicians, soloists and choir.
The
Youth Choirs competition on Saturday 27th March will raised at
the Dorking Halls as hundreds of school children sing with their usual
exuberance. Then it’s
the adults’ turn with the opening concert of the main Festival on
Thursday 15th April combining the Baroque excitement of Handel's
Coronation Anthem The
King shall Rejoice with the Classical elegance of
Schubert's tuneful Mass in
C. with Cecilia McDowall being a special guest to
delivering a delightful Ave Maris Stella.
The Friday
night and Saturday programme will be equally wonderful with a world
premiere of a new song for men’s voices composed by Bob Chilcott!
A Spring opera ‘tonic’ at The Menuhin Hall
Riverside
Opera’s December concert at the Menuhin Hall duly delivered a
exhilarating and moving mix of excerpts from (mainly) Italian opera. The
Riverside Opera Chorus, and seven professional soloists, drew prolonged and warm
applause – and raised the appreciative audience’s expectations for the
Company’s return in March. On March
20th Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love [L’Elisir
d’Amore]
will be presented in English, fully-staged and costumed. This opera boasts some
of the most beautiful melodies in opera and one of the greatest tenorarias.
A Spring treat, not just for opera lovers, but also for opera
‘newcomers’. Why not give it a try !
March – More Musi
