Funding Success
We have been very fortunate to receive funding from The Arts Council, to tour “Your Call is Important to Us” in the South East, and to create an innovative dance/film performance called “Steep Rain”. More news soon. Also, we have received support from The Wessex Youth Trust for an additional Dance Workshop and to fully develop our system for recording the progress and achievements of our members.
Work in Schools
The trials of our “Trust” Workshops for primary schools have proved very popular with children and teachers alike, and we hope to market these more widely in the new year. The Ingenious Workshops for secondary schools have now been successfully trialled at St. Andrews and Downsend in Ashtead. Our term of uScreens/RC Sherriff film-making workshops with Woodlands School and Walton Leigh was much enjoyed, and the children, our mentors and our tutors all learnt a great deal! We believe the drama workshops given at the Jigsaw School in Dunsfold have also worked well, and we hope they will ask us back.
Future Fundraising
We now have a justgiving page where it is easy for you to donate to Freewheelers, and where we can benefit also from Gift Aid if you are a taxpayer. Have a look at www.justgiving.com/freewheelerstm.
We are also delighted to announce that we have a runner in the London Marathon this April and hope you will all help us to make this a huge fundraising success. The campaign will be launched in January.
And last but far from least – we also have a team of cars running for Freewheelers in the banger racing at Wimbledon this spring. Not to be missed!!
Sessions starts again in the week of 9th January 2012. We look forward to seeing you all

As part of its commitment to provide training and networking opportunities for members, Mole Valley Arts Forum held a seminar on “Grants and how to Fundraise” on 24th November.
Peter Gooch of Surrey Community Action, who has raised thousands of pounds to set up and help run various organizations, imparted his wisdom and knowledge in this lively and interactive seminar. The Forum’s treasurer, who was responsible for obtaining Peter’s services for the evening, furiously scribbled notes which are now available online at www.molevalleyartsforum.co.uk
The winning mix of a free event and a free glass of wine encouraged good attendance and the planned hour-long seminar extended as attendees shared experiences, tips, frustrations and potential solutions with like-minded individuals, all needing to collect core funding in these difficult times.
Simon Fielder, Mole Valley Arts Forum Chairman, said, “The seminar addressed a real need amongst our members. Many of us have to search out appropriate grants for our projects and it is vital that we apply in such a way that our enthusiasm is strongly conveyed whilst ensuring forms are filled out fully, accurately and in a manner likely to give the best chance of a positive response. The various ways to fundraise was, for many attendees, perhaps the most enlightening part of the seminar.
It was a revelation to some that doing something social and fun with no overt link to their particular arts organization was an option that could prove to be a more effective fundraiser with added PR value.”
The Forum has been asked to arrange a seminar on using Social Media, as the old ways of advertising are becoming less effective in reaching the widest possible audience. This is being researched for a future MVAF event to which all members will be invited.
